Our Monthly Online Movie Rental StatsWe have been keeping track of our total movie rentals since we began using online movie rental services. Here are the results so far.
We are on a 4 movie unlimited rental plan which costs $29.95 per month. This comes to $32.05 after taxes. Average in store rental costs where we live are $4.95, $5.64 after taxes. Money saved does not include fuel burnt driving to rental store. We are renting in Canada so we converted our total saved to US funds at an average exchange rate of 0.84 CAD/USD. Prices will, of course, vary depending on the rental plan you choose and the actual in-store rental fees in your area. But our experience does show the substantial savings online movie rental offers. We went gangbusters the first couple of months and rented as many movies as we could. The novelty factor has worn off a bit and we have settled down to about 15 movies per month. December and January rental are below average due to a vacation over the holiday season. February has taken us back towards the average. We update these online movie rental stats monthly, usually a week or so into the next month. In March we crossed the $500 CAD mark for total money saved using online movie rental. And in April we crossed the $500 USD level. Wow! We definitely watch more movies now because of online rental. It is not likely we would be renting as many movies as we do now if we were paying the full in-store price, but this does go to show the massive price difference. We are certainly saving money, and we watch more movies. Win, win situation! :)
